Dental implants are used to replace teeth that have been lost. Through a surgical procedure, these artificial roots are placed directly into the bone and the crown is attached to the implant. Implants are natural-looking, extremely secure, and durable, and last for many years. Mini-Dental Implants are narrow implants that can be used to stabilize a lower denture or sometimes as a single tooth replacement for non-load bearing teeth. Mini dental implants are mostly used to improve the stabilization and comfort of the lower denture immediately. Implants will help your jawbone maintain their shape and dimension to help counter the loss of bone from an extraction. Sometimes patients are referred to a specialist to place the dental implants and then return to have our doctors place the final crown after the 3-4 month healing process. Depending on the patients’ needs or wishes, both titanium and zirconia implants are recommended.
About the Implant procedure
Implant planning is a multi-step, restorative based decision which means we begin with the end in mind. From there the best type and precise location of the implant is chosen accordingly following these steps.
A consultation and evaluation is needed to determine if you are a good candidate for implants.
A 3D x-ray of the jaw is taken which shows where and how much work will be needed to place them.
Working closely with the lab on a treatment plan, a surgical guide is fabricated from the 3D image for optimal placement of the implant.
Once the design is finalized, your dentist completes the implant placement procedure.
Once the implant has integrated or fused to the bone the next step of placing the permanent restoration, like a crown, can begin.
The entire process takes an average of three to five months.
A custom made nightguard will be necessary to maintain and protect the implant from damaging chewing or grindingforces.
